Jean-Baptiste LULLY (1632-1687)

Jean-Baptiste Lully - practically every musician or simply interessed in musical history must have heard this name. Of course, you'll say, after all he's a greatest french composer of XVII century, creator of so-called "french overture" and altogether a founder of french opera. Oh yes, that's how in reading-books is written. Some unusually deepened in the biographical material could also name the most famous of his operas, just as they could mention one incident, that leaded to composer's death. But if we are well-acquainted with the styles and music of Bach, Mozart, Liszt, even with the music of little known Pachelbel, then why couldn't we tell anything of Lully's music? Ruefully, but a fact - only the name of Lully is well-known, yet not his music, the matter, of which we are remembering Lully's name.
And this happens while during the Lully's life his music was extremly popular all around Europe and carried a huge authority, still not only around the musical elite - Lully's music was also well-known to the common people. La Vieville, Lully's younger contemprorary, witnesses, that only one love-air from the opera "Amadis" had been sung among all the cooks of France. Amusing, but typical fact: we are acquainted with one musical composition, written in the Lully's style, yet we do not know the Lully's style and music itself (here is spoken about the J.S.Bach's "Ouverture nach franzsischer Art" ("French overture").
In order to elliminate this unfortunate mistake and crying injustice the site is created. Here at your service is, first of all, a unique collection of Lully's music in MIDI format. It's originality is in that you'll not find this files on any other sites, as they're all are sequenced by the site's author. Unfortunately, you will not find here any real music, still you will see a catalogue of available Lully's records. As well as a catalogue of Lully's works. Also you will find a comprehensive Lully's biography, historical review on the Lully's age, portrait gallery and original review on the motion picture "Le Roi danse" ("The King is dancing", 2000 Belgium-France-Germany, about the Lully, Louis XIV, Moliere and France of those times).
If you have any interesting information or files connected with Lully, I would be thankful if you could send them to me via e-mail. You can also send me your comments, ideas, etc.
