Selected Lully's instrumental works

F.Puget. "Musiciens de Louis XIV"

In the field of instrumental music Lully has only a few compositions written for court concerts. Unfortunately he did not enrich the harpsichord literature which has its Renaissance today. Luckily Jean Henri d'Anglebert (1635-1691), court harpsichord-player of Louis XIV arranged a few excerpts from Lully's plays for harpsichord and edited them in his Pièces de clavecin collection (Diverses Chaconnes, Ouvertures, et autres Aires de la Musique de Monsieur Lully mis sur cet Instrument; appeared in 1689). The present suite is arranged from Lully transcriptions of the 1689 d'Anglebert-Collection which is to be found at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.
